I think Johnny Carson would be thrilled

I think i'm the only person i know that is excited that The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien is premiering tonight. But i am! I grew up on Johnny Carson, it was on every night in the Heckaman household. And i do believe that Johnny would be happy that Conan and Andy (!) will be hosting. I'm curious, too, to see if the Late Night with Conan O'Brien crew has traveled to the west coast. Will Conan be announced as "Heeeere's Conan!" - i guess i'll find out in an hour and a half. I can hardly wait!

I could never be your woman

I'm watching a Michelle Pfeiffer/Paul Rudd movie that is actually pretty cute/funny. Henry Winkler makes a cameo - or actually he appears as himself, is that a cameo? Ok, I just looked up cameo on dictionary.com

CAMEO: Also called cameo role. a minor part played by a prominent performer in a single scene of a motion picture or a television play.

So I guess it applies. Anyway, I was reminded of how awesome Henry Winkler is. I bet he's a really nice guy in real life. as opposed to the fake life.

And Henry Winkler makes me think of Ron Howard - another awesome, and most likely, very nice guy.

and Ron Howard makes me think of Don Knotts - he infuriated and made me laugh as a child and now I just adore him. I'll overlook his stint on Three's Company.

Welcome to the Grand Illusion

today's cloudy weather reminds me of when i would hang out at my friend, molly oaks' house during our pre-teen years. we made a fort in her garage above the rafters. looking back, i can't believe her parents let us hang out up there. we'd eat those grandma brand sandwich cookies that were so delicious and listen to either records or tapes. it must have been tapes - of styx. if i was hanging out in a fort today, i'd listen to this girl's playlist i found on last.fm.com: http://www.last.fm/user/mindcage. there are a couple choices that i would hit fast forward on the tape deck - but overall i'd enjoy it!

Black Moth Super Rainbow

Ben and I went to the BMSR show last night at the Bottom Lounge. This was my 3rd or 4th time to see them live and I have to say I was somewhat disappointed. The bass player, who totally reminds me of our friend and co-worker, Ed, wasn't there. The lead singer, Tobacco, wasn't there either yet he was "performing." Which makes me think of the Ashley Simpson fiasco on Saturday Night Live where she was caught lip synching. I can't believe I'm bringing up Ashley Simpson while discussing BMSR's show. I was bummed out. What happened? Where were they? Why is it ok for BMSR to perform live while two members of the band are MIA? And without Ed/bass player, the energy was missing - he has quite a stage presence - tall, thick long dark beard, and 70's style headband. and he moves! he really gets into it and he's a blast to watch. I'm really hoping this was just a one time situation without these two guys.

Rhodeersian Ridgebuck

This started off as a drawing of Louie sleeping on the couch - but as i kept working on it, he morphed into a deer. But i don't think deer have antlers, so rather he's a buck. what a dashing buck he is!

Polly Jean - there is no other

If i were to start a wish list, my first wish would be to be PJ Harvey for a day...or two.

I'm flying!

I can't take credit for this shot, ben took it. Izzy "flying" up the front stairs. I think I need to make her a cape.

Goauch-ing and Baseball Fields

Not sure if it can be used as a verb, but i’m trying gouache for the first time and loving it. Thanks to my dear friend, Justine, who bought me a brush, paper and gouache set for my birthday. What a perfect gift! I love the consistency, the ease, the opaqueness and/or translucence, the quick drying time and ability to bring the paint back to life. So cool! I’ve started a couple paintings, one in which i did today for Ben’s parents. It’s a thank you card. With a Rooster. And the Rooster’s name is Bob and he has a wish list. The other two paintings will be posted as soon as i finish them.

Bob contemplating.

As i’ve grown older, i’ve noticed the similarities i share with my parents. i usually have to smell my drinking receptacle before committing to using it. Which is what my dad did. He’d pull a glass from the cupboard, stick his nose into it, and take a whiff. Now i understand why he did that.

And finally, Ben and i went to the White Sox opener on Tuesday afternoon, seats in the sun, a perfect induction to baseball season - Yay for Spring! I took this shot as the White Sox clinched the win. How do they get such straight lines?!

Ah, this is much easier

Welcome to my new blog site - screw wordpress, not user friendly at all. Since i didn't get very far into wordpress with my blog, i'm going to basically copy what i had started and then start anew from there. First an introduction - my nickname is Pixie and my dog's name is Pixie. She's a rhodesian ridgeback and I also have another ridgeback named Louie, as well as a mini-daschund named Izzy and Cleo the cat. Yay for pets!

“Sunshine in my eyes can make me cry….” Who doesn’t love John Denver and a pup basking in the sun? I’ll always love Pixie but my childhood love for the country boy was shattered when i found out he mowed his lawn in the nude. Oh well, i always had my Elton John crush (!)
